BRIDGET: I just finished watching "Lovelines" and I loved it! Especially that montage sequence with Dr. Drew and Adam answering questions, and I was wondering, was that real and ad-libbed or did it just look like it? And how did you do all those editing effects like the split screens and the ripple effect?
PAUL: Sorry Bridget, the student question/answer montage was not real... all of the students were actors and most of the dialogue was scripted, although Adam Carolla loved to ad-lib and often treated the script as more of a 'jumping off point' than as something to be memorized. One might argue that he was occasionally in violation of the somewhat unspoken rule of ad-lib acting... that unless the ad-lib is funnier than the script - stick to the script! As for the editing, a lot of that montage was crafted by one of our amazingly talented editors who never gets enough credit, but always makes us look good - Barbara Gerard. All of the effects are done on our computerized editing system known as the Avid, using the filmed footage that has been digitized. It's very high-tech stuff!
